Rest, the Fourth Commandment

God set the example back in the beginning after creation when he rested on the seventh day. The Sabbath is not part of ‘Jewish law’ but part of God’s Law for mankind found in the Ten Commandments where God REMINDED Israel of when the Sabbath was first given to man. If we can lay aside the keeping of the Sabbath due to Messiah’s death and resurrection, are we then allowed to forget the other nine commandments? Of course not.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

As for the idea that the Sabbath is only for the Jews, Isaiah writes that the eunuch (slave) and stranger (foreigner) who joined themselves to Israel as converts were to also enjoy the Sabbath rest. Are we gentile Christians not ‘joined’ with Israel as ‘wild branches’ being grafted into the olive tree?

Romans 11:17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root[b] of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

Isaiah 56:4-8 4 For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. 6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; 7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people. 8 The Lord God, which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.

Dirty Double Standard

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was approved while William Jefferson Clinton was under CRIMINAL investigation, her confirmation was near unanimous. Justice Stephen Breyer was approved while the same WJC was under subpoena, there were no significant delays in the process.

Meanwhile, Donald J. Trump is NOT under criminal investigation, has cooperated fully, actually above and beyond with the Mueller probe, Clinton crony Lanny Davis has admitted to LYING about Trump’s involvement with Cohen’s crimes to the press and the former FEC head says POTUS did nothing wrong in paying a woman in a non disclosure agreement (NDA). Furthermore, NO judge or court has named POTUS as an unindicted co-conspirator in any case, Not to mention, Deputy AG Rosenstein has formally announced NO AMERICAN has been found to have colluded with Russia in the 2016 election.

What the media is telling you, what Democrats in Congress are telling you about the reasons they have for not meeting with or voting to approve Judge Brett Kavanaugh is pure and unadulterated propaganda and disinformation designed to make the public see POTUS as not only guilty of something, but also to avoid approving his nominee for purely partisan reasons..

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.”

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.” Deuteronomy 30:15

I think the saddest story I’ve read this week is of the millennial couple that refused to believe evil existed and decided to show the world that jihadi Moslems are just people, so they rode their bikes near ISIS territory — and were promptly slaughtered.

But wait… all we need is love, right? Apparently not. Let me show you that along with love we need TRUTH as well.

Now I fully believe that Moslems are human, but I also know that their religion orders them to kill me as an ‘unbeliever’ and therefore even though I see them as God’s creation I also see them as dangerous to my life and limb, especially those determined to see me submit or die according to their religious beliefs. This young couple had believed a lie, the lie that all people are ‘God’s children’ and all we have to do is love them and everything will be peachy.

Before we go any further, since I am a ‘word nerd’ and love the study of etymology, let’s look at the meaning of the word ‘religion’.

The word religion comes from the Latin and while there are a few different translations, the most prevalent roots take you back to the Latin word “Re-Ligare”. “Ligare” means “to bind” or to “connect”. Adding the “re” before “ligare” causes the word to mean “Re-Bind” or “Re-Connect.”

So basically a person’s religion is their way of trying to reconnect with their Creator God.

Unfortunately many ignore God’s outstretched hand reaching for them via His Son and keep trying to reconnect their own way. Which is why we have so many ‘religions’ and brings us back to the need for TRUTH as well as love.

Mankind trying to find God in his own way leads not only to error but to the evil that ‘religion’ has wrought in the world…such as ISIS. Islam claims to have received God’s word via the angel Gabriel, this, however, is an error if you bother to read the scriptures of ‘the people of the book’ as Moslems refer to Christians and Jews.

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

One would think if we truly wanted to reconnect with our Creator God we would seek to do so according to HIS WILL not our own. sigh…

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

But alas, people are stubborn and insist on doing things their own way.

Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…

I frequently read comments by atheists that ask how a loving God can or would allow evil in this world so I would not say that atheists are ignoring evil. However, I do think they are naive in that they ignore God’s remedy for it. Their questioning of God about evil in the world always makes me wonder if they’re willing to give up their free will to reduce evil in the world.

Should God forbid us from acting on our own desires just so evil is lessened in the world? Oh wait, He did. He gave us the Law and the Prophets and the Writings to teach us how to live and thereby reduces evil in this world. And that Word was rejected and disobeyed by the very people God chose to deliver it to the human race, Israel. If Israel would rebel and disobey after seeing the miracles of God it is not surprising when modern day atheists scoff at God’s instructions on what to do about evil in this world.

Proverbs 15:12 A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, He will not go to the wise.

So how did God deal with evil? As He promised in that Law, and by those Prophets, and in those Writings, He sent His Son to conquer evil by living without sin, dying in place of us in our sin, and rising to live victorious over sin and offering us this same victory if we would only believe on Him as Savior and King.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit…

Unfortunately, evil loves to twist the words of the prophets and the requirements of the instructions within the Law. People still prefer to do it their way. But for those who honestly seek the TRUTH God opens the understanding of their spirit and God Himself reconnects with us via His Son Jesus.

Ignoring evil is not the answer either, as we can deduce from the fate of this naive millennial couple. if they had not ignored the warning in God’s Word that man’s heart can be very evil without the Truth, perhaps they would be alive today.

Evil is not ‘God’s fault’. It is a result of man’s choice so long ago in the garden, and all his choices down through the ages, to do things his way instead of God’s way.

Jeremiah 17:9-10
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Yes my little social justice warriors, evil is very real. Evil is the absence of God in man’s heart and soul. Evil happens in the human soul when GOD is first set aside, then rejected wholeheartedly. It happens when a man chooses to worship at the altar of another god and not the Creator God who made him. The only way to FIX this evil in the world is through the God who created the world and us in it in the first place.

Matthew 7:7-14 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? 12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

1 John 5:10-15 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

“I am carnal, sold under sin.”

Your worldview matters, it is the lens by which you process all the data (information) that enters your mind. Those of us who use computers and/or smartphones realize the importance of sound software. Remember Garbage in/garbage out?

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

“Give me a child when he’s 7 and he’s mine forever,” Adolph Hitler

As early as age 2, a child has already started developing their worldview.
By the time they reach the age of 9, a person’s moral foundation is generally in place. And by the time they turn 13, their worldview is practically set in stone. (Additionally, 85% of those who get saved do so by the age of 13)

Can you imagine the DAMAGE DONE to the minds of children who are abused throughout this crucial time period?
I believe we are seeing a rise in crime, and an uptick in outright depravity, cruelty, and evil because so many children have endured abuse and been taught lies straight from the pit of hell with the intention of keeping them from God starting as infants, babies, and children.

In his book, Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions, George Barna says this:

“Social scientists have known for years that the moral foundations of children are generally determined by the time the individual reaches age nine… Anyone who wishes to have a significant influence on the development of a person’s moral and spiritual foundations had better exert that influence while the person is still open-minded and impressionable – in other words, while the person is still young… The older a person gets, the more difficult it is for him or her to replace existing moral and spiritual pillars… More often than not, what a person decides about truth, sin, forgiveness and eternal consequences during the preteen years is the same perspective that person carries to the grave and beyond, wherever that may take him or her.”

Before the age of 13, kids are defining what they believe. After the age of 13, they start defending those beliefs. What if what we learned and had defined for us was wrong, and we waste our life defending a lie?

fast forward… We are all damaged, we are all broken by sin. Fact is, without the help of the Holy Spirit none of us could or would ‘seek God’.

On God’s calendar this is the month of Elul, a month set apart for repentance. Teshuvah חזרה בתשובה

is the Hebrew word for repentance and it is by repentance or a change of direction, a return (to God) that we can meet and commune with God. In Greek, the word is Metanoia, a transliteration of the Greek μετάνοια can be defined as “a transformative change of heart; especially: a spiritual conversion.” The term suggests repudiation, change of mind, repentance, and atonement; but “conversion” and “reformation” may best approximate its connotation.

Flesh vs Spiritual ~ Romans 7:14

The sinful, fallen flesh cannot understand the Mind of Christ, only by the Holy Spirit can we perceive spiritual things such as repentance and salvation. We need a new ‘worldview’, we need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to Spiritual things to see God’s will for us through Jesus Christ.

John 3:8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

John 16:8-11 When He (Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: 9 About sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; 11 and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

Romans 10:9-10 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye. shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh. findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

I am the way, the truth, the life… John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

What’s your worldview? Carnal or Spiritual?

Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom

The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom. Isaac Asimov

1 Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Knowledge is knowing what is true and what is false, simply knowing the facts.

Understanding is knowing why those facts are true and being able to explain them to others.

Wisdom, however, is the ability to  discern which facts and what aspect of that

knowledge you have is right and good and applying it to how you live your life.
